I have been interested to read of the societal insights that have emerged through this covid period. A frequent theme has been the fundamental human need for meaningful connection. “Community” is being re-defined…or rather, reverting to a more basic notion that centres around meaningful local relationships, opportunities and networks.

My Neighbourhood specialises in the new communities space. In recognition of this, I have of late received articles out of the blue from family, friends and colleagues that speak to the topic of what has been missing in our residential development response. The recurrent theme: authentic, human-centred design and grass-roots community development has traditionally been the poor cousin in the residential development invetment equation.

Genuine “placemaking” is so much more than building beautiful, shiny things.

The story of Ellenbrook is worth a read.
