A mate of mine recently shared this article with me: ” I read this and thought of you”. Thanks James -this served to remind me that the stuff I have banged on about for years is now topical and resonating at a personal level. Moreover, it underscored that western societies are now facing a once-in-a-lifetime “sliding doors moment”.
An enforced local focus through Covid19 restrictions has restored a neighbourhood lifestyle reference that had become much diminished over time. As restrictions ease, to what degree will this be retained? Will local and state governance planning responses reflect that which we have re-learnt? Will home builders now re-value an orientation towards the street through front verandahs and similar, or will the impenetrable-walled default of the last few decades continue to prevail?
